Picture in situ

Into the Mist This was purchased by a class member. I enjoyed working on the softness of the mist. It takes a little work with acrylics, using extender medium to give extra flow and working time. Acrylics often seems to lack the capacity for subtlety but it is possible if you work at it.

Walton Group, Landscape day

Art class in the open air

On a bit of a catch up from last year . I am not entirely sure that the chronology will be right but I can date them as I go. Sometime in June I did an acrylic landscape workshop with the Walton Group of Artists. Based out of the church hall in Walton we parked […]

Ellergill 2016

This was the fourth trip to the bunk barn in Littondale in the Yorkshire Dales and it was a resounding success. So much so that the majority of the people who went this year have signed up for next year. We had great weather, a bit breezy on Saturday but with that we got some lovely […]

2015 Workshops and Residentials

I am promoting my 2015 schedule in good time for the New Year. Get yourselves booked in and challenge yourself to doing a new skill or improve on an existing one. I have places left on the life drawing in January. Both sessions have been documented in previous blogs. The difference in the next two […]

Jon’s painting from Ellergill

Jon has finished his painting from Ellergill and together we have framed it up using white ash. Together we have bought some equipment to make bespoke frames. Firstly looking at tray frames ( like the one on this painting ) and maybe then looking at more traditional mounted and glazed framing. The tray frames are […]

Sculptures in clay

A few weeks ago we did some sessions sculpting using an air drying clay. We used natural objects as a source of inspiration. It was the 1st time I had used this clay so it was a bit of a learning curve. There were some cracks on some of the pieces of work which seemed to […]

Re-photographing work

I have struggled to get a quality photo of this painting because of the reflections. I believe it is a good piece but previous attempts to put it in a good light have failed. I picked a cloudy day and spent time getting the angle right.  See the difference

Battersea Affordable Art Fair

I recently had work in the Affordable Art Fair with the Bridgegate Gallery. I took a trip to London to see the show and how the paintings looked in this setting.  It was a very rewarding experience and sold the bottom two pieces of work. I am pleased with my first showing in the capital […]

Recent Work

Here are a few images of work in progress. a few are at the stage where I am pleased and others not so. I seem to be firmly held within the landscape for most of the pieces. The idea of landscape is only a device to allow me to paint freely. I feel the body […]

According to McGee show with Phil Reynolds and Patrick Smith

It has been a while since I posted a blog, if that is the term. I have been busy preparing for and hanging the show at According to McGee as well as being ill. I will not detail that bit. I will attach a gallery of images from the show and separately put Paddys on […]
