Walton Group of Artist’s Charcoal workshop

It’s always a pleasure to work with the Walton Group of artists. This time I delivered a landscape themed, charcoal workshop where you set down layers of powdered charcoal using cloths to produce varying levels of intensity. This can then be taken off using a variety of erasers. Below is an example of one of the participants work. Here the student has used a scalpel to scrape back to the paper creating an interesting, ragged texture.

This technique allows a much more dramatic result than simply drawing on with charcoal and then rubbing back.

This was a successful session made so by the willingness of participants to learn and apply innovative ideas.

I look forward to working with you all again in the not-too-distant future and will be running this course on Tuesday 17th October 2023 10-30 till 3-30 from my studio in Fulford. Please reply through the contacts page with interest.
